Lyle In Translation

We saw Lyle Lovett at the Greek Theatre yesterday. Quite a trip, literally and culturally. Like all L.A.'s canyon, open air venues, the Greek is a "schlepp" to get to. But that's not the subject. Lyle Lovett is.

I've never grown to his style of music. It gets totally lost in translation. So lost that I called it musique folk country -- to my Significant Other's dismay. I've been informed that it's actually "a mix of bluegrass, blues and gospel, with a Texas influence in all three". Far out.

Did I enjoy the show? Yes. Still didn't get the music -- nor the jokes -- but Lovett and his band are extraordinary, gifted musicians. And super pros -- from beginning to end.
