Theatricum Botanicum

Set in the hippie wilderness of Topanga Canyon, The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum proposes a new fantastic season this Summer, with its usual mix of Shakespeare and other plays.

We saw Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream last year. Dream it was: the coastal forest, the makeshift stage, the candlelight, the elfs falling from the trees. Magical.

"The beginnings of Theatricum Botanicum stretch back to the early 1950s when Will Geer, one of the many actors victimized by the McCarthy era, opened a theatre for blacklisted actors and folk singers on his Topanga property. He also cultivated a large garden and, unable to find work in Hollywood, earned a living by selling vegetables, fruit, herbs, and theatre [more]."
