Alerte A Malibu

When our local paper The Santa Monica Daily Press published this photo-montage on April 1st, with the headline "LNG comes to Santa Monica", we thought haha -- very funny poisson d'avril.
Little did we know that we would soon be the real fools. This week's Malibu Times reports on an anti-LNG campaign launched to oppose the "Cabrillo Port" project, which plans to anchor a liquefied natural gas terminal forteen miles off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard -- in total breach of the Clean Air Act.

Granted, forteen miles is not closer than the oil platforms which dot the ocean like cruise ships. But we're talking about highly inflammable gas. And Big Bertha is scheduled to reach three football fields long and forteen stories high. No wonder the Baywatch community is in uproar. [more]
