Guimard & The Cactus Tree

French Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard is known throughout the world for his édicules [the signature entrances of the Paris métro]. During a recent escapade to the Bergamot, I checked Ryan Taber's exhibit at Mark Moore.

His piece below reminded me of Guimard, with a zest of California. It perfectly illustrates a feeling I share with other transplants: that total bliss would be a combination of Paris/France & L.A./California. Taber may have meant otherwise, but the feeling I got loud of clear was that of nostalgia.
Other interesting shows currently at the Bergamot:
Andy Mose's dreamy abstracts @ Patricia Faure
Two exhibits @ Track 16: funny/funky "I'd Love to Turn you Own: work from the 60s & 70s"; and "The L.A. Weekly Biennal" featuring works from various L.A. art schools
Arturo Mallman's superb acrylic and resin panels @ Berman/Turner
Last but nor least: Miriam Wosk's Euphoria in the project room of the Santa Museum of Modern Art. No pictures here, because there's no way they could do justice to her eclectic mix of encrusted pearls, glitter, crystals, starfish, collage and paint.
