Tucked between Marina del Rey and the Peninsula, the Ballona Lagoon estuary is the perfect escape from busy life and beach traffic.
Designated as a conservation area, The 16-acre wetlands run parallel to Venice beach. They have long been a sanctuary for migrating birds, including rare species.
Fortunately, attempts to privatize and develop the area were thwarted, and the natural habitat has been preserved and enhanced.
There is a public path that runs between the water and the residents' lush gardens, providing one mile of dreamy peace and quiet between Via Dolce and the Marina.
