Conspicuous Consumption

"Vertu, the status symbol," announces W magazine in its December issue. For those who can afford a cell phone as pricey as a car, Vertu introduces bejewelered phones by Boucheron. Says W:
"The Signature Python, of which 26 were created, features 20 carats of multicolored sapphires and diamonds coiling around an 18k rose gold phone. At $115,000, it's practically a bargain compared to the Signature Cobra, which goes for $310,000. That limited edition of eight boasts even more gems: 24 carats of rubies, diamonds and emeralds." A little excessive, perhaps?
