Banana Sky

Lucky Texans. Come Summer 2008, they will be able to admire a new constellation -- a 300-meter banana, that is. Perched 50 km over planet Earth, this "art intervention" will use blimp technology and the fruity icon as an "over-simplified message," in the words of its designer. "It is banal; visual; a fiction; surreal; useless and absurd," he writes. "I wanted to bring some humor to the Texas sky." Done -- besides giving the expression going bananas its truest meaning ever.
