Dogtown Barely Survives

"In the end, the reports of Dogtown's death were greatly exaggerated," writes the SMDP. The former Zephyr shop was finally designated as a landmark, and will be preserved, "not based on its architectural features, but for its cultural significance."
The Zephyr building may be kept, but as a shell only since the surfers and skaters will be out for good when their lease expires next year. The spirit of Dogtown is dying, as it is besieged by soulless new developments. Below view of what's cooking up across the street from Zephyr: a series of mixed-use dumplings courtesy of Archstone.
