The More The Merrier?

The population of California is expected to jump 75% to almost 60 million by 2050, according to recent projections by the State Department of Finance. "L.A. County alone will top 13 million by 2050, an increase of almost 3.5 million residents," writes the LAT. "Riverside County will triple in population to 4.7 million." That's a whopper growth -- with great business opportunities, but also substantial challenges. Where do you put the newbies? Do you "sprawl" them, our do you stack them up? How do you move them around? And what about the environmental impacts? All this "could translate to increased political clout in Washington," the LAT suggests. Something to meditate while choking on the freeways for hours on end. [update 07/19/07: The California Menace in NYT via LAObserved]
