Is The Magic Over?

In an interview with Roger Cohen of the IHT, French foreign minister and renown tête-brûlée Bernard Kouchner contends that "whoever succeeds President George W. Bush in the White House may restore something of the U.S. shattered image and standing overseas, but the magic is over." More here. Not only is Kouchner's statement undiplomatic, it is wrong, or at least premature. The past eight years may have raped America's moral standing and authority in the world, but out of the three contenders still in the 2008 presidential race, two have the ability to restore it -- one more certainly and rapidly than the other. That is pretty good, and well-boding enough -- provided the third/oldest in the race doesn't make it. If he does, aux abris everyone.
