They Finally Did It

Santa Monica's ficus tree saga ended an a sad note yesterday.
After winning its battle against Treesavers this week, the City of Santa Monica did not waste time to chop off the ficus trees which had so charmingly adorned the city's 2nd and 4th streets -- starting promptly on Friday. As of 9:45 AM, all trees were gone, a Santa Monica official reported to Curbed LA. YouTube video of the "execution" via LAist. More on the story in the SMDP.
