Bowie Tribute @ Theatricum Botanicum

Singer/songwriter Inara George and friends joined together for a fantastic "Tribute to David Bowie" jam session last night at the The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. The Theatricum is quite a unique arts and theater place lost in the vegetation of Topanga Canyon, with an open-air amphitheater and an extraordinary hippie-zen vibe.

A Topanga native, George assembled an eclectic cadre of musicians for the occasion, including Eleni Mandell, Becky Stark, Greg Kurstin, Mike Andrews, Charlie Wadhams, Alex Lilly, Sara Melson, Philip Littell, Tom Brousseau, John Gold, Justine Kragen, Bryony Atkinson, James Combs, Erica Canales, Michael Bonnabel, Harper Simon, Justin Webb, Zach Schaffer and Julianna Ray. A laid-back but unmistakably talented bunch of "kids" who looked more like the sons and granddaughters of early Bowie fans -- carrying the legacy.

Each one played his/her favorite Bowie song, with others kicking in, switching and exchanging music instruments as the mood would have it. The evening ended with everyone joining on the stage for a huge boeuf on Bowie's song "Heroes" under the late Summer stars.

We got back to our Santa Monica digs on a little cloud -- driving with the top down, crickets and canyon aromas gently morphing into surf and salty air. A perfect evening.
