Some signs are unmistakable. The nights now bring a chilly ocean breeze. We no longer watch the sunset after dinner, but before. Early dawns are misty. Deck chairs and plastic glasses have made room for pencils and composition books in the stores. The nearby school band began rehearsing at 7AM again, while the local college is buzzing with new recruits and a choking parking garage. Books overwhelm shop windows, including fashion stores such as Anthropologie on the Santa Monica Promenade (above.) Goodbye Summer. C'est la Rentrée.
