Streetcars Turned Into Reefs

One of L.A.'s most infamous calls for fame is the deliberate destruction of its streetcars, a formidable public transport network which used to take Angelinos across town, from anywhere to everywhere. Starting in the early 2000s, the city has been much abuzz about creating a new, 21st Century Subway to the sea transport network. Like reinventing the sustainable wheel. The planned infrastructure will cost billions, disrupt neighborhoods, and in no way match the expanse and connectivity of the much missed streetcar network, but it's a step in the right direction. What happened to the old, cherished streetcars, you may ask? Believe it or not, they were turned into artificial reefs. Call it Streetcars to the sea.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing this...It's a shame that American corporations' capitalistic ways have gotten in the way of progress for the people. I wish we could have amazing public transit to rival that of Europe's, but it seems like it'll never happen unless someone stands to make big bucks (or if we just keep pushing back harder and harder for it!).

The first time I visited Europe 2 years ago, I was so spoiled by Paris' amazing subway system (among other things in that beautiful city!). I really dreaded coming back home to my reality.
