All Life Deserves Respect

Today's Rant
Our Sunday Farmer's Market is the local hangout for the gauche caviar, eco-crowd of Santa Monica. The market offers organic-only products, and promotes sensitivity to the environment, with boards advertising commendable practices such as "Zero Waste Zone", "No Chemicals Used" or "Respect Life".
And yet, every Sunday there is a pony ride. Militant vegetarians and self-righteous, tofu-eating hypocrites will give people a hard time for eating meat, but they don't hesitate to pay to put their kid on a pony.

All the ponies have the same, deeply depressed, zombie gaze. This is plain animal cruelty -- and utter disrespect for other life forms.

I remember when I was a child growing up in SoCal there used to be many of these "rides". I distinctly remember one in Griffith Park's Travel Town - for all I know it may still be there. In every one, those little animals looked so damaged and forlorn that as a child and still to this day I think it is incredibly inhumane and should be outlawed.

Hello...

i agree...i've always even thought horseback riding is inhumane, even though most horse owners really take care of thier animals.

Cool post about France on Amy's site today. Being an avid reader of WWII history, most folks don't know that the Belgians walked away from a 25 mile stretch of the Main Line of Resistance in the middle of the night, unbeknownst to the Germans, and went home right before the disaster at Dunkirk happened....

Although not completely sympathetic to your views, I appreciate you pointing out the hypocrisy so commonly found among such ilk. Bottom line is that morals have become that which make you happy about yourself. Not to mention something to lord of other less "progressively" minded folk.
