The Duality Of Nature

L.A.'s eerie, ash-laden moisture caused by the fires brings a whiff of Mike Davis in the air, but also somptuous sunsets: the brutal irony and duality of nature. As of tonight, 128,000 acres have burned and the fires are only 22% contained, but "miraculously" only 64 structures have been destroyed. The firefighters, relief agencies and animal rescues are doing an awesome job. Even the 747 Supertanker was brought to the rescue. Xeni Jardin monitored/summarized the situation for Boing Boing. Also: Interactive map, timelapse video + Steve Lopez' column on Angelenos' (irresponsible?) aloofness.
